Summary

Brief excerpts from Augustine's De Genesi contra Manichaeos and De civitate Dei, commenting on verses in Genesis, copied probably in France in the late 17th or early 18th century. The excerpts are written in very small italic script at the upper edge on both sides of an otherwise blank folio leaf ruled in faint red ink for two columns. Watermark of a variation on J. Viger's watermark of the arms of Henry IV, King of France and Navarre (also seen in Briquet Armoiries 1854 and 1855, late 16th-century watermarks of Guillaume Journee), but surmounted by a five-petaled flower rather than four-petaled, with the arms reversed (Navarre on the left, France on the right) and with the initials AN before VIGER in the first cartouche below and then a second cartouche below with three letters (AD?).
