Summary

One leaf from a book of hours printed in France, probably Paris, in the late 15th century (circa 1490-1499). The text on the leaf is from the Penitential Psalms, Psalm 101 (from verse 6 to the end) and the first two verses of Psalm 129. The book of hours is printed in 26 long lines on parchment, in a type related to lettre bâtarde script. Ruling is supplied in faint red ink and the leaf is illuminated with panel borders on the outer side margin of flowers, strawberries, and acanthus leaves; one two-line initial marking the first verse of Psalm 129 and one-line initials at the beginning of all other verses of the Psalms; and line fillers. The leaf is paginated with roman numerals lxxix-lxxx in red ink, and has modern foliation 40 in pencil in the upper right corner on the recto.
