Summary

A brief apology for a departure occasioned by the desire to recover a loan. (Grenfell and Hunt)

Notes

Mostly intact margins on the top, left and bottom. The right margin has a large gash, with loss of writing from 4-5 lines.
According to Grenfell and Hunt, "this letter is badly written and obscurely worded, and the writer was evidently a person of little culture" (p 262).

Text is written on both sides: the main text is 13 lines written with the fibers. On the opposite side, there is one line written against the fibers.

Provenance

Excavated by Grenfell and Hunt (1896-7) on behalf of the Egyptian Exploration Fund, and donated to the University Museum in return for its support (1904, Dr. Parrish Collection).
