Summary

Gilbert Tennent (1703-1764) was an Irish-American Presbyterian clergyman, and one of the leaders of the Great Awakening. The title of this sermon, which Tennent delivered in 1743 or 1744, translates to "About being chosen." It is a rumination on God's rejection of the Jewish people as "neither total nor final," and begins with Romans 11:5, "Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace," although Tennent goes on to quote several other Bible passages in his discussion of the subject.
