v273
The practice of renting pews was common in 18th and 19th century churches; members paid a fee for the right to occupy a particular pew every week. This bound manuscript is a record of pew rents due to Christ Church and St. Peter's in September 1805. Entries are listed by pew number, with occupant's name, number of seats, sums due and sums paid. Christ Church pew rents are listed from the beginning of the book, and St. Peter's pew rents start on page 29.
