Summary
Manuscript ketubah with standard ketubah text in black ink in Aramaic and Hebrew in Sephardic semi-cursive script. Terms of the dowry and bride price in Judeo-Tajik. Leaf sides have straight edges save for the top which is tapered. Verses from Scripture in block Hebrew print with gouache surround the ketubah text: Psalms 128 and Isaiah 61:10 in outside border; Isaiah 62:5 straight across the top. There are two roundels at the top: outside of right roundel has abridged verse from Malachi (3:20) and Proverbs 5:18 in the center; outside of left roundel has abridged verse from Isaiah (30:26) and Proverbs 18:22 in the center. Between the two roundels are words of blessing to the bride and groom in Aramaic and Hebrew which are framed by words of the abridged sixth blessing recited at a Jewish wedding. Wedding took place on 29 Ḥeshṿan 5634 (19 Nov. 1873), in Bukhara, Uzbekistan. With the unusual presence of three signatures. The third is presumed to be the scribe.
