Summary
This is a manuscript containing Seliḥot for the Rosh ha-Shanah service and some meant for the morning preceding Yom Kippur, all in a Provençal custom. This minhag follows the Sefardic custom of reciting Seliḥot as on one of the other Days of Repentance (see R. Isaac ben Sheshet Perfet, Teshuvot ha-Rivash, number 512) and it may follow the ruling of R. Hai Gaon (see "Teshuvot geʼone mizraḥ u-maʻarav", ed. Müller (Berlin: P. Deutsch, 1888), no. 122); this is distinct from the practice of Ashkenazim, who do not recite Seliḥot on Rosh ha-Shanah (see R. Jacob b. Asher, Ṭur ḥeleḳ Oraḥ Ḥayim, siman 602). The manuscript was intended to accompany a Maḥzor or another prayer book, as generally the standard prayers are either skipped or written in fine script while the focus is the piyutim for the Seliḥot. The headings of the piyutim include Seliḥah, Pizmon, Al-khrug (a Sefardic nomenclature; perhaps this is related to the Arabic al-khurūj), Miḥyeh, Siluḳ, and Rehuṭah. The manuscript had blank pages at the end, in which the Musaf prayer was written later by another hand (f. 91v). Since the begining of the manuscript is missing, the specific rite is unknown.
