Summary
This is a manuscript, likely once a teaching handbook, for the purposes of imparting and studying the laws of shehitah (ritual slaughter), kisuy ha-dam (the covering of the blood after the slaughter of birds and wild beasts, 'ḥayot ṿe-ʻofot') and ṭerefot (deformities which disqualify the kashrut of a slaughtered animal). The format of the text is one of question and answer; for example, why is a delayed slaughtering motion (shehiyah) prohibited (f. 11v); what is the law if one discovers the trachea cut or removed (f. 13v); if one slaughtered one hundred fowl or one hundred beasts, of how many [of these] must he cover their blood and how many blessings must he recite (f. 15r); what types of lung adhesions (sirkhot) are permitted (f. 19r). Many of these questions are found in the Talmud and halakhic codes.
