Summary

Two documents from chancery court proceedings related to the estates of the late John Jeffery (husband of Elizabeth Jeffery) and the late John Howell (father of Elizabeth Jeffery). The first document (a bifolium) has the filing note "Report Beaumont & Jeffery" and is dated 29 November 1705 (f. 2v). The report concerns a hearing in which the complainants are Charles Beaumont and George Brigham (brother-in-law of the late John Jeffery) and the defendants are Samuel Jeffery (brother of the late John Jeffery), Elizabeth Jeffery, and Anne Harrell. The unnamed court official, writing in the first person, finds that money is due to Elizabeth Jeffery as executrix for the the will of her father John Howell, related, to mortgages between John Howell and John Jeffery. A number of calculations of expenses and interest accompany the report. An acknowledgment of the report written on the document is signed by the parties and dated 19 December 1705. The filing note on the verso of the second document, dated 13 July 1706, is "Agreement Beaumont & Jeffery to refer if [illegible] Hooper and Mr. Poley." The complainants are Charles Beaumont and the defendants are Elizabeth Jeffery, Samuel Jeffery, and Anne Harrell. This agreement follows an earlier decree, not extant, about an estate to be sold to Elizabeth Jeffery; the parties agree to refer disputes about the sale to Mr. Hooper and Mr. Poley, whose decisions will be final, to avoid the expense and delay of rehearing.
