Summary

An oblong, leather-bound volume containing receipts of payment to various people and companies in Philadelphia spanning the years from 1839 to 1851. The handwritten receipts are signed by the vendor or person. Recorded in the volume are payments to Isaac Jacob Levy for boarding, John Hulseman for books, Isaac Phillips for cloth, Charles Roth & Co. for clothing, and Congregation Mikveh Israel signed by Hyman Gratz. There are also receipts of payments for boots, books, cloth, rent, horse stables, taxes, and wagon repair. The last receipt is a payment by Henry Cohen dated 1857. Cohen was an executor to Levy's estate. One receipt is pasted in the volume. The receipts in the volume are written parallel to the spine in the manner of a note pad. The receipts are written on the first seventeen leaves. The remainder of the volume is blank. The spine of the volume is broken, covers are detached, and the first eleven leaves are detached.
