Contemporary calf; author's name in gilt within sprays of laurel leaves on boards, "Fran/cois" on upper cover and "Batar/din" on lower cover; gilt borders to sides and small flower tool in spine compartments; gilt edges; headcap chipped, corners worn (Gaskell).

Layout

Written in 32-37 long lines, with bounding lines (doubled at top and outer margin of text block) ruled in dark red ink; ruled with a narrow outer column on each page for annotations.

Script

Written in a cursive script by what appears to be a single hand.

Provenance

• Owner name François Batardin on binding; signature, Franciscus Bastardinus (p. [530]). Pen trials on the front flyleaf include the name Cornuty or Cornut.
