Summary

The first and third parts of a French mytho-Hermetic dictionary translated into English, most likely by Charles Rainsford, with a preface (V. 1, p. iii-xxi). Also includes a leaf laid into the beginning of v. 1 that is addressed to "General Rainsford, Soho Square", with the remains of a wax seal that has been torn away.

• Formerly owned by Charles Rainsford (British army officer, fellow of the Royal Society, and alchemist); bequeathed by Rainsford to Hugh Percy, Second Duke of Northumberland.
   
• Owned by the 2nd through 12th Dukes of Northumberland, ms. 597 and 598, Alnwick Castle, Northumberland, 1809-2014 (bookplate, inside upper cover; stamps throughout).
