Summary

Manuscript used for contemplation, study and recitation, and is a Sanskrit adaptation of an earlier Prakrit work containing a collection of stories, often having a didactic purpose and written for both children and adults. The major story arch is about Indian court life, sibling rivalries, as well as a complex love story. In the process of relating this narrative, many short narratives are told as asides or explanations and these contain a wealth of literature about ancient Hindu customs and practices, court life, gods, demons, animals, and other myriad of mythical beings. The main text is surrounded, above and below, with a Nepali commentary.
