Summary
C. Hermann Berendt's transcription of a vocabulary of 24 words, including the numbers 1 to 10, and 100, in the dialect of the Bayano Indians of Panama, as recorded by Berthold Seemann, in his article entitled The aborigines of the Isthmus of Panama (Transactions of the American Ethnological Society, vol. 3, 1853, p. 175-182, the vocabulary on p. 179-181. Also included are four words of Bayano mentioned by Moritz Wagner in his article Eine Reise in das Innere der Landenge von San Blas und der Cordillere von Chepo in der Provinz Panama, in Petermann's geographische Mitteilungen (vol. 8, 1862, p. 132). In both cases, Berendt provides Spanish entries, with the Bayano equivalent, whereas Seemann and Wagner write in English and German, respectively. For another transcription by Berendt of Seemann's Bayano vocabulary, along with other vocabularies in the same article by Seemann, see Ms. Coll. 700, Item 170.
