Summary
Thai manuscript containing two works. The first is part of a legal text known as Phra Aiyakan Laksana Utthon (Royal legal text on appeal, f. 3r-53r), itself part of the Kotmāi Trā Sām Dūang, a corpus of traditional laws of Thailand compiled in 1805 by the order of King Rama I of Siam. Another section of the corpus, on thieves, is on the verso (f. 1v-26v). The manuscript lacks segments at the bottom of the recto side (which is the top of the verso side), so the middle of the legal text is missing. The legal work includes many textual and subject variations, so it may be based on sources other than the royal or authoritative version. The second work (f. 27v-51v) is a collection of notes on and definitions of terms from monastic rules and doctrines. A leaf at the end of the verso side (f. 52v) is decorated with a floral pattern in white pencil. (Peera Panarut). The fold between f. 2r/52v and f. 3r/51v is extremely fragile with evidence of earlier attempts at repair.
Notes
- Written in 4 lines per leaf (first work) and 3-9 lines per leaf (second work).
- Probably written in the mid- or late 19th century (based on paleography (Panarut)).
- Folios black, with text in white pencil; folded concertina- or accordion-style.
- Worm damage to the edges of the segments at the beginning of the manuscript.
- A detailed description of this manuscript by Dr. Peera Panarut is on file at the library.
