Summary

This Book of Hours for the Use of Paris was produced in the first quarter of the fifteenth century. It begins with a calendar (fols. 1r-12v), which is followed by the Gospel Lessons, Obsecro te, and O intemerata (fols. 13r-24v); a bifolio with suffrages to the Holy Spirit, Trinity, Saint Nicholas, All Saints, and Saint Catherine, in a different hand (fols. 25r-26v); the Hours of the Virgin with multiple pages missing (fols. 27r-84v); Penitential Psalms, Litany, and Prayers (fols. 85r-99v); Hours of the Cross (fols. 100r-103v) and Hours of the Holy Spirit (fols. 104r-107v); and Office of the Dead (fols. 108r-152r). Additional prayers include the Fifteen Joys of the Virgin (fols. 152v-157v) and Prayer to the Five Wounds of Christ (fols. 158r-161r), both in French, and a final prayer, "Mon createur je ne suis pas digne...," in French (fol. 161v). The manuscript contains seven large miniatures in the style of the Master of Mazarine 491. Pages with the beginnings of Hours and miniatures are lacking between fols. 47 and 48 (Lauds), 57 and 58 (Prime), 62 and 63 (Terce, two leaves missing), 73 and 74 (Vespers, two leaves missing), and 79 and 80 (Compline). Folios 77-79 are misbound.
