Summary

This manuscript is a carta executoria issued under the authority of Philip II of Spain in favor of Agustin de Yturbe of Seville, in response to his pleito de hidalguia (litigation to establish noble status), issued in Granada on 12 January 1593. The text is followed by signatures (f. 69r). The volume opens with elaborate full-page miniatures of the Yturbe family praying before the Virgin Mary as the Mulier Amicta Sole; a double portrait of John the Baptist and Saint Augustine; and a scene of Saint James vanquishing the Moors above the Yturbe coat of arms (fols. 1v-2r). The curtains that formerly protected miniatures have been removed (between fols. 1-2 and 67-68). The carta executoria is followed by a shorter document referring to Agustin de Yturbe and the carta executoria, dated 27 March 1593 and signed by a notary (fols. 69v-71r).
