Summary

This manuscript – made in Italy around 1500 – contains Antiphons from the Vigil of the Nativity to the Nativity of the Virgin (fols. 1r-68v), as well as additional liturgical texts appended at a later date (fols. 69r-75v). Both sections are accompanied by musical notation on four-line staves. A number of folios (at least fifteen) have been excised from the main text, leaving it imperfect. An original index on fol. 1v indicates the extent of this manuscript's original contents. Along with the original foliation in red ink, this would have facilitated easy reference to the required text. There are ten large illuminated initials on fols. 2r, 3v, 4v, 6r, 8r, 43r, 45v, 49v, 53v, and 61v, as well as numerous black and colored initials – some with penwork decoration – throughout the rest of the book.
