Summary
This manuscript is a late twelfth-century copy of Augustine of Hippo's Sermons on the First Epistle of Saint John, written in France. Augustine wrote extensively on theological subjects. His sermons on John's first Epistle focus on the virtue of charity.

- Text is incomplete, ending in the middle of tract eight (of ten)
- Fol. 48v: An inscription in a Renaissance hand at the bottom of page gives the contents of the manuscript and explains that it ends in tract eight and is missing tracts nine and ten

Pithou (purchased at Troyes, 7 June 1613); Lepelletier de Rosanbo; Duchess de Berry (Paris, sale 1837); Library of the Dominicans of Paris; Guglielmo Libri sale (London, 1859); Sir Thomas Phillipps (his sale, 1898); Ouseley; John Frederick Lewis, Philadelphia (1911); given by his widow, Anne Baker Lewis, to the Free Library of Philadelphia in 1936; bookplates of John Frederick Lewis, the Le Pelletier de Rosanbo and Caroline-Ferdinande-Louis de Bourbon, Duchesse de Berry pasted onto inside of front cover; stamp of the Bibliothèque des frères Dominicains; Phillipps ms number "16234" written in pen on inside cover and on recto of first folio; in a sixteenth-century hand on first folio, "emptum Tricassib MDCXIII 7. Iunii" and "Augustinus de caritate."; in the same hand is the signature "P. Pithou" written on the top of the recto of the second folio; a date written in pencil on the recto first flyleaf: "Sotheby Ap 24, 1911."; pasted onto the flyleaf are a printed catalog description and a typed note that give a date of 1150; notes in Lewis's hand are written in pencil, also on the first flyleaf, give a brief biography of P. Pithon and list the manuscript's previous owners; on the verso of the flyleaf are two notes in French, one in an eighteenth-century hand and another in a nineteenth-century hand, which identify the text and provide notes as to provenance
