This Book of Hours of the Use of Rome was most likely made in the Flemish town of Hainaut, as the calendar includes feast days for saints particular to Hainaut, including Waudru, a saint from the town and for whom the monastery in Hainaut was dedicated, her sister Saint Aldegund, and her husband Saint Vincent. The book consists of a calendar; the Hours of the Virgin with a special section of Hours for Advent; Penitential Psalms, Litany, and Prayers (illustrated with a miniature of Christ in Judgment, fol. 70r); and the Office of the Dead. It then continues with a more unusual set of texts: the Commendation of Souls (illustrated with an angel fighting a devil for a dead man's soul, fol. 113r); the Hours of the Passion with an historiated initial for each individual Hour; the Hours of the Trinity; the Hours of the Sacrament of the Altar; the Hours of the Holy Spirit; the Hours of the Conception of the Virgin; the Missus est Gabriel angelus Prayer to the Virgin; The fifteen O's of Saint Bridget (with a historiated initial of the Mass of Saint Gregory, fol. 183r); Prayers for Communion and to the Virgin; prayers to individual saints including Waudru (fol. 192r), Vincent (fol. 197v), and Saint Gregory (fol. 198r, with a second historiated initial of the Mass of Saint Gregory); prayers for the sick; and prayers to the deceased, to the sacrament, to our Lord, and to Saints Cosmas and Damien.
