Notes
- David as Musician
- This miniature from a breviary begins Psalm 80, 'Exultate Deo adiutori nostro' (Sing joyfully to the Lord, our strength), which was read during Matins of every Friday. David, who was believed in the Middle Ages to have composed the Psalms, typically appears as the subject of psalter illustration as he does here, enacting the literal meaning of the first line of the psalm. This miniature comes from the same manuscript as Lewis E M 9:18, 19, and 21-26.
