• This cutting and Lewis E M 43:22a from the same manuscript, and probably from the same folio. Each cutting shows an angels holding several of the Instruments of the Passion of Christ, or the Arma Christi (Weapons of Christ), as they are sometimes called. These are the objects associated with the pain and suffering that Christ experienced leading up to his death on the Cross. In this cutting, the angel holds the three nails, the lance, the column, and the rope which bound Christ to the column. The Instruments of the Passion were revered as the weapons with which Christ defeated sin and saved mankind.
