Summary

This manuscript is an account book kept by a Spanish royal treasury official in Peru for the year 1571, documenting revenue received and payments made on behalf of the King of Spain, and tributes or "royal fifths" levied against the native people of the Spanish colony. The title Libro de thesorero Diego de Salzedo para deste ano de 1571 is written on both the upper cover and the first folio. A table of contents lists categories of transactions recorded (fol. ii recto). Years and amounts are both usually written in roman numerals, but some arabic numerals are also present. Most entries are signed by Salzedo, some with signatures of other officials as well.
