Summary
This manuscript pertains to the order of chivalry known as The Order of the Holy Spirit, created by Henry III in 1578. It presents scriptural texts, including the beginning of the Gospel of John and the account of Pentecost from Acts, as well as four full page illuminated miniatures. The first miniature represents Louis Gonzaga, the Duke of Nevers, receiving the Order, the first knight to do so. The second, third, and fourth images are Biblical scenes: the Crucifixion, Pentecost, and the Circumcision. The manuscript features illuminated borders throughout with four illuminated initials.
