Summary

The practice of renting pews was common in 18th and 19th century churches; members paid a fee for the right to occupy a particular pew every week. This bound manuscript is a record of pew rents due to Christ Church in September 1817 and March 1818. Entries are listed by pew number, with occupants' names, number of seats, amount of rent, total due and amount paid. Rents from September 1817 are listed from the front of the book, and pews in the gallery are listed separately, with new page numbering. Page numbering starts over again with rents from March 1818, and one more time with March pew rents from the gallery listed last.
