Summary

Reverend Benjamin Dorr served as rector for Christ Church from 1839 to 1868, and undertook the difficult job of holding the congregation together during the Civil War. This sermon lays out Reverend Dorr's thoughts on John 5:26-27, "As the Father hath life in himself, so hath he given to the son to have life in himself; - and hath given him authority to execute judgement also, because he is the son of man." The inside front cover notes five dates Reverend Dorr delivered this sermon, from 1861 to 1866.
