Summary

William White (1748-1836) was born and educated in Philadelphia, and served as Rector of Christ Church and St. Peter's Church for 57 years. He also served as Chaplain of the Continental Congress, Chaplain of the Senate, the first presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church of the United States, and a long-time trustee for the University of Pennsylvania. In this sermon, written for Trinity Sunday, Reverend White discusses his thoughts on Matthew 22:41-45, "While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying, What think ye of Christ? Whose Son is he? They say unto him, The son of David. He saith unto them, why then doth David in Spirit call him Lord? Saying, the Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right Hand, until I make thine Enemies thy footstool? If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?"
