On fol. ir, a three-quarter-page miniature in two columns depicting two separate images: the conversion scene of Augustine in the garden at Milan and Augustine in the vestments of a bishop; below the miniature the text opens with a rubric and a 7-line miniature depicting a frontal, seated figure before a tree with head resting on right palm; on fol. 7r Book 2 opens with the half-figure of a bishop with crozier and miter, executed in brown ink and colored with lavender washes; titles and rubrics in red; at major text divisions, alternating red and blue 5-7-line penwork initials, elaborately infilled and flourished in the opposite color; 19 in all

- Two bookplates on inside front cover: (1) Thomas Ewart Marston, (2) Brian Douglas Stilwell; verso of the first flyleaf contains several pencil notations indicating that the manuscript was "Bound by Douglas Cockerell 1900" and comes "From the library of Dr. Adrian Fortiscue (late Chief Librarian of the British Museum)"
