Pre-1600, contemporary. Beige leather, blind tooled, with metal centrepiece, cornerpieces and clasps. Boxed. Spine: 'Machazor. Ux[...]tum Germanicum. Hebraice.'

Layout

Columns: 1 2; ruled lines: 27; written lines: 26; Uniform layout. Visible pricking and hard-point ruling. Initial words written in larger characters. Hair side and flesh side are hardly distinguishable.

Script

Ashkenazi square script, punctuated, of the 14th century.

Provenance

• Acquisition: Adolphus Asher (b. 1800, d. 1853), Berlin bookseller and dealer to the British Museum (see 131-153: purchased from him on 12 June 1852, inscribed (folio [136v]).
