Summary

A second volume of a festival prayer book, in the Italian rite.

Notes

• Stained.
   
• Avraham(?): perhaps the same scribe who also wrote MS Parma Palatina 2884, for the same patron in Bologna ca. 1400. Both manuscripts are festival prayer books, written in a similar style, with two last letters of the line often very elongated.
   
• Yitsḥaḳ ben Shelomiyah: inscribed in the colophon with a date of 5057 (1397), Cento, folio 148v.
   
• Yo᾿el ben Yitsḥaḳ: inscribed in the colophon, folio 148v.
   
• Uzi᾿el Mikha᾿el of Camerino: inscribed, folio 1r.
   
• Censored by Dominico Irosolomitano, Italian censor (fl.1575-1614): inscribed with his name, 1597 (folio 159r); see 61, and appendix § 62-74.
   
• Censored by Giovanni Domenico Carretto, Italian censor (fl.1600-1624): inscribed with his name, 1628 (folio 158v); see 100-101, and appendix § 80-84.

Columns: 1 2; ruled lines: 24 26; written lines: 24 26; Uniform layout. Visible pricking and ruling. Initial words are written in larger characters. Hair side and flesh side are distinguishable. Last line of text written outside ruling.

Script

Italian semi-cursive and square script, punctuated, of the 13th century.

Provenance

• Acquisition: Giuseppe Almanzi (b. 1801, d. 1860), bibliophile; his manuscript no. 109: his library including 322 medieval Hebrew manuscripts were purchased en bloc by the British Museum in October 1865 for £1,000 through Asher & Co., Berlin dealer to the British Museum (see 131-153: inscribed, folio [161v].
