Post-1660. Dark green leather binding, tooled in gold, centrepiece. Spine: 'The Pentateuch, Hafṭaroth, and Five Megilloth. Hebrew. Brit. Mus. Additional 27, 167.'

Layout

Columns: 1; ruled lines: 20; written lines: 20; Uniform layout. Visible ruling. Numerous decorations: parashah signs decorated with pen-flourishing, initial-word panels with penwork and pen-flourishing, frontispieces with initial-word panels and full floral border, masoretic lists decorated with penwork and full pen-flourished border.

Script

Sefardi square script, third quarter of 15th century, punctuated.

Provenance

• Acquisition: Giuseppe Almanzi (b. 1801, d. 1860), Italian bibliophile: his manuscript no. 277 (folio [465r]); his library including 322 medieval Hebrew manuscripts were purchased en bloc by the British Museum in October 1865 for £1,000 through Asher & Co., Berlin dealer to the British Museum (see 131-153): inscribed (folio [465r]).
