Summary

Pentateuch with the Five Scrolls, Psalms, Job and the Hafṭarot, with punctuation and accents.

Notes

• Yeḥiel Foah, inscribed with his name on folio 293v: זה החומש עם ההפטרות ותלים משלי איוב וה' מגילות של היקר כמר' יחיאל פואה יצו' אחרי חלוק האחי' ... ה' למען חסדיו יזכהו להגות בו הוא וזרעו וזרע זרעו עד סוף כל הדורות אכיר'.
   
• Partially erased Hebrew inscription, folio 294v, with tan oath and the names of five witnesses, dated 251 (1491).
   
• Shemu᾿el of Pula (?), inscribed with his name on folio 1v, with a list of his sons (faded ink).
   
• Anonymous censorial note is given on folio 294v: Io fra luigi lo uidi del 1599.

Post-1600. Morocco binding, gold-tooled. Spine: 'Codex Biblicus Hebraice. Mus. Brit. Ex Dono Sol. da Costa. 4709.'

Layout

Columns: 1; ruled lines: 26 28; written lines: 26 28; Uniform layout. Visible vertical (page by page) plummet ruling and horizontal (page by page) ink ruling. Graphic filler at the end of line. Last written line within ruling. Hair side and flesh side of folios distinguishable. Deuteronomy, Song of Songs, Lamentations, Psalms, Proverbs and Hafṭarot commence a new leaf. Initial word of each book written in larger letters. Beginning of a pericope in the Pentateuch marked by פרש', accompanied with a small pen and ink design.

Script

Sefardi square script of the 15th century, punctuated and accentuated. Abraham Farissol [of Avignon], son of Mordekhai Farissol, inscribed with his name in colophon, folio 293v.

• Acquisition: Salomon da Costa, inscribed with his name on the upper and lower cover of the binding, in gold letters and ornamental design, dated 1719, London.
