Pentateuch with Targum Onḳelos in the margin, the Hafṭarot with the Five Scrolls in the margin, with punctuation and accents.

Notes

• Parchment of poor quality with a lot of holes.
   
• Many leaves are soiled and mutilated.
   
• Numerous leaves have been amended, patched with paper (watermark on folio 67 with the word beginning 'Green...').

BM/BL in-house, with the emblem of Bibliotheca Arundeliana as centrepiece. Spine: 'Pentateuchus Hebraice. Brit. Mus. Ar. Or. 2.'

Layout

Columns: 2; ruled lines: 19; written lines: 19; Hair-side and flesh-side of folios distinguishable. Complete ruling by hard point, bifolium by bifolium on hair-side of folios. Pricking in outer margins only, quire by quire on verso. Each of the books of the Pentateuch commences a new leaf and Haftarot begin a new column. The first words of each pericope in the Pentateuch, Hafṭarot and Five Scrolls written in larger characters. The beginning of each pericope marked by פ פ פ. Last line written within ruling. Main text in two columns, commentary in outer and lower margins.

Script

Ashkenazi (French?) square script of the 13th century. Śimḥah bar Yosef: inscribed with his name on folio 271v: חזק ונתחזק שמחה בר יוסף. The word Shelomoh is decorated on folio 276v.

• Acquisition: Purchased by the British Museum from the Royal Society together with 549 other Arundel manuscripts in 1831.
