Layout

Columns: 1; ruled lines: 17; written lines: 17; Uniform layout. Visible ruling with a mastara. Initial words of each section written in larger characters, preceded with a title page (see e.g. folio 224r, 240r, etc). Catchwords on every verso. The biblical verses are given with punctuation.

Script

Square and semi-cursive Oriental script of the 17th century. Avraham ben Mordekhai ha-Kohen: inscribed, volume 2, folio 220v and volume 3, folio 126v. Avraham ha-Kohen wrote the present manuscript for his son, Yosef. The name of the latter is inscribed under the title of each Muḳadimah.

Provenance

• Acquisition: Moses Wilhelm Shapira (b. 1830, d. 1884), a antiquities dealer of Jerusalem: purchased by the British Library from him on 08 July 1882: inscribed, folio [315v].
