BM in-house. Green leather, gold-tooled Star of David on the inner and outer cover. Spine title: 'Hebrew Bible. Lisbon 1484-53. Pentateuch. Brit. Mus. Oriental 2626.'

Layout

Columns: 2; ruled lines: 26; written lines: 26; Hair side and flesh side distinguishable. Ruling with hard-point visible. Masorah magna in two lines in the upper margin and three lines in the lower margin. The beginning of the weekly section marked by פרש'.

Decoration

53 full borders, in colours and gold. Numerous decorated initial-word panels, in colours and gold. Numerous decorated parashah signs, in colours and gold. Masorah magna in micrographical design in the margins. Full-page micrographic design.

Script

Sefardi square script, punctuated. Shemu᾿el ben Shemu᾿el ibn Musa: inscribed with his name in the colophon, Lisbon, 5243 [1483] (see volume 3, Or 2628, folio 185v).

• Acquisition: Benjamin Cohen of Bukhara: purchased by the British Museum from him on 17 November 1882 (folio [188v]).
