BM in-house. Green leather, gold-tooled Star of David on the inner and outer cover. Spine title: 'Hebrew Bible. Lisbon 1484-53. Former and Latter Prophets. Brit. Mus. Oriental 2627.'

Layout

Columns: 2; ruled lines: 26; written lines: 26; Uniform layout. Masorah magna in usually two lines of the upper and three lines of the lower margin. Hair side and flesh side distinguishable. Ruling with hard-point visible. The Former and the Latter Prophets separated by two leaves containing a masoretic list.

Decoration

20 full borders sometimes accompanied with decorated initial-word panels, in colours and gold. 4 decorated initial-word panels.

Script

Sefardi square script, partially punctuated, of the 15th century. Shemu᾿el ben Shemu᾿el ibn Musa: inscribed with his name in the colophon, Lisbon, 5243 [1483] (see volume 3, Or 2628, folio 185v).

• Acquisition: Benjamin Cohen of Bukhara: purchased by the British Museum from him on 17 November 1882 .
