Consists of full versions of Mannyng's poem Handlyng synne (leaves 1-84v) and Mannyng's translation into English of Meditationes vitae Christi, or, Meditations on the supper of our lord and the hours of the passion, sometimes attributed to Cardinal Bonavenura (leaves 84v-92v).

• Volume was formerly bound with copies of (1) Mandeville's Travels (Princeton University Library, Taylor Medieval MS 10), and (2) a "C" text of Piers Plowman, the Evangelie and Assumption of our Lady (London University Library MS V.17), all done by the same scribe and originally following Handlyng Synne and Meditations.

Bound in 19th-century white leather in a brown leather case by Riviere & Son. Case labeled: Robert of Brunne, Handlinge sinne, Manuscript XIV century (dimensions of case: 392 x 286 mm).

Layout

Written in 2 columns of 37 lines (dimensions of written space: 252 x 180 mm); frame-ruled in ink; prickings in inner margin.

Decoration

Border in red, blue and gold of oak leaves and daisy buds on leaf 1r. Illuminated first initial on leaf 1r. 3 coats of arms at bottom of leaf 1r, one of which is for Sir William Clopton. Pen flourished initials in red and blue ink throughout.

Written by a professional scribe in Anglicana cursiva.
