Summary

Medical encyclopedia in 9 books, with discussions of physiology, anatomy, pathology, diagnosis, fevers, specific diseases, surgery, fractures, poisons, and antidotes. Includes indexes, although some leaves are missing. Most leaves re-margined with pink paper; a few leaves have original margins and extensive marginal notes or commentary (f. 255v-261r).

18th-century blind-stamped reddish-brown leather remnants laid down on the same color leather over boards; marbled paper pastedowns.

Written in 33 long lines; ruled in blind.

Decoration

Illuminated text divider (f. 62v, 125v); illuminated circular medallion (f. 125r), miniature of a couple sitting under a tree (f. 214v); text block outlined in red; rubrics in red.

Script

Written in naskh in black ink; pointed. 14 replacement folios written in a second hand.

• Ownership stamp dated 1186? (1772-1773 CE) with inscription in ink (f. 1r); Persian customs stamp dated 1342 (f. 1r, 352v).
