Contemporary (18th-century) red leather over pasteboard with flap (Type II); gilt-stamped central mandorla, two pendants on the vertical axis and a medallion along each edge; gold tooled frame; no spine, covers detached.

Layout

Written mostly in 2 columns of 14 lines alternating between horizontal and diagonal, a few pages with long lines instead; text block framed in ink.

Decoration

3 illuminated headpieces (f. 1v, 18v, 339v); small illuminations in gold and red in the corners of text compartments throughout; text block border-ruled in gold and blue; leaf surfaces silver sprinkled.

Script

Written in nastaʻlīq and naskh in black ink; pointed.

• Formerly owned by Anwār al-Dawlah, 1170 A.H. (ownership stamp with date of 1756 or 1757, f. 1r) and Abū al-Faz̤l ibn Ghiyāth al-Dīn Manṣūr (inscription, f. 1r).
   
• Formerly owned by Captain Robert Mignan (ms. 20) of the East India Company and Sir Thomas Phillipps (ms. 3920; pencil note on front flyleaf, remnants of label on remnants of spine).
